The cover and box delicately carved with leafy branches of lychee, with five fruit on the cover and four on the base, each fruit carved with a different diaper pattern and all reserved against a ground of star diaper, with plain borders, the interior lacquered in black

A similar box and cover is in the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities, Stockholm, illustrated by Sir Harry Garner, Chinese Lacquer, London, 1979, p. 129., no. 64; and another, also carved with fruiting lycee on a diaper ground was included in the exhibition, East Asian Lacquer, The Florence and Herbert Irving Collection, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, November 22, 1991 - February 23, 1992, illustrated by James C. Watt and Barbara Brennan Ford in the Catalogue, p. 105, no. 40, where the authors describe it as an incense box
