Lot Essay

A painted pottery camel with similarly textured hair on the humps, legs and neck, but with the addition of a laden pack rather than the delicately painted saddle cloth, as in the present lot, is illustrated in Sekai Toji Zenshu, vol. 9, Tokyo, 1961, pl. 127; and another, also with saddle pack, but smaller in size, was included in the exhibition, Arts of the T'ang Dynasty, Indianapolis Museum of Art, October 2-November 4, 1973, Catalogue, p. 14, no. 4
