GUANGXU EIGHT-CHARACTER MARK, GUANGXU DING WEI YUHAITANG ZHI, CORRESPONDING TO 1907, AND OF THE PERIOD

The rounded sides painted in yellow, pale green, iron red and underglaze blue with three chickens and a rose and cockscomb issuing from rockwork, all within blue line borders; together with a pair of yellow-glazed incised saucer dishes, Guangxu six-character marks in aubergine and of the period, incised on the interior with a pair of dragons confronted on a flaming pearl and the exterior with four cranes separated by clouds, all within aubergine line borders under a yellow glaze of egg-yolk tone
2¾ and 5 5/8in. (7 and 14.2cm.) diam. (3)

The eight-character mark may be translated, 'Made for the Sea of Jade Hall in the ding wei year of the reign of Guangxu'
