Amsterdam: Claes Janss Visscher, 1656. Engraved full-sheet map, 457 x 570 mm. (12¾ x 22 3/8 in.), laid down on paper, repairing 2 small tears to lower margin and one short internal tear (over paw at lower right), matted, fully hand-colored. Fifth and final state of Visscher's map showing the Low Countries in the form of a lion, oriented west to the top, the lion facing left (or south), title cartouche with figures of the virtues and Visscher's monogram. The plate was engraved by Hessel Gerritzs. c. 1622, as a reissue of Cornelis Jansson's original plate of 1611; the date and imprint were modified in the later issues. Van der Heijden 16.5. RARE.
