1952 JAGUAR XK 120 FIXED HEAD COUPE
Chassis No. 679259
Engine No. W4080-8
Black with red leather interior
Engine: six cylinder, twin overhead-camshaft, 3,442cc, 160bhp at 5,200 rpm; Gearbox four speed manual; Suspension: front independent, rear, live axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs; Brakes: four wheel hydraulic drums; Left hand drive.
When in 1948 Jaguar Cars introduced their revolutionary new sports car, the XK 120, they little realized it would be a world success--the start of an incredible line of Jaguar sports cars with the distinguished competition history of winning the Le Mans 24-hour race 5 times, as well as many hundreds of other major events. Its appearance at the 1948 Motor Show in England was met by hundreds of people clamoring to own one of the most seductive and rapid cars of the era. Rather than hand-building a few cars, as originally intended, Jaguar had to tool up for serious production.
The two main features which made it so popular were the major styling advances of the XK 120 series and, perhaps more importantly, the debut of the twin overhead-camshaft engine, which became the mainstay of Jaguar cars for over three decades. With a genuine 120mph performance and one of the all-time greatest designs, the XK 120 continues to be as popular today as it was the day it was introduced.
This particular fixed head coupe was fully restored approximately five years ago. The restoration was extremely thorough and photographic evidence shows that the work included the body and engine being removed from the chassis. The chassis appears to have been stripped and repainted to a high standard. The brakes, brake lines, suspension and engine all appear to have been fully overhauled to a similar high standard. The car was repainted to a high degree in black, at the same time new red leather upholstery and red carpets were fitted. The burled walnut veneer dashboard and side trims were also refinished. This beautiful example also comes with the chrome wire wheels and driving fog lamps.
Since the restoration the current owner has enjoyed driving the car during the summer months. The garage who have maintained the car in recent years report that it is a very pleasant driving vehicle with a good gearbox. Around five months ago a little paintwork was carried out to the stone chips to return the vehicle to its present high standards. For Jaguar enthusiasts who like matching number vehicles, both the head and block numbers match the chassis plate. While the XK120 is without a doubt the prettiest of all XKs and still one of the most beautiful automobile designs ever, the XK120 fixed head coupe model painted a dark color, such as on offer here, is simply stunning.
