These vases are derived from a vase commissioned by the duc d'Aumont for his celebrated collection of mounted hardstone objects. It was bought by Marie Antoinette at the Aumont sale in December 1782 and is now in the Wallace Collection, London (P. Hughes, The Wallace Collection: Catalogue of Furniture, London, 1996, vol. III, no. 275, pp. 1340-1344).
