Lot Essay

Philippe Poirié, maître in 1768
Six fauteuils à la reine and a canapé probably from the same set were sold at Sotheby's New York, 21 May 1994, lot 218. Four other fauteuils of this model but with small differences in the carving are in the Musée Carnavalet in Paris.
The confident or tête-à-tête, known in the 19th Century as a Marquise, is typical of the work of Philippe Poirié.
