Lot Essay

Maud Earl exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1884 to 1908 and her first enrty, Red Deer earned her the title "English Rosa Bonheur". Chiefly known as a painter of canine subjects, her exotic ornothological paintings with their cool tones from the 1920's appealed to the changing taste of this period.
