This painting may be dated to the early 1880's. Dupre did several variants of this composition during his carrer (see M. M. Aubrun, Jules Dupre 1811-1899, Paris, 1974, nos. 374, 534, 678 bis and 725. This painting has been authenticated by Mme. Madeleine Aubrun.
