A LARGE APULIAN RED-FIGURE ASKOS

circa 330-320 b.c.
The front with a seated woman in conversation with a seated man, the woman wearing a chiton and himation, the man nude but for his mantle which drapes over his legs, holding an oinochoe and a phiale, with a female attendant to the right bringing a cushioned stool, a cylindrical cista and a phiale on the ground between them, a fillet hanging above, and a female attendant to the left holding an alabastron and a wreath, beneath the handle, a large head of Nike in profile to the left, her wings spread out on either side, wearing a sakkos, earrings and beaded necklaces, a band of rosettes on the neck and under the handle, flanked by two ivy leaves, laurel on the handle, wave on the rim, and a band of meander with concentric squares below the scenes
