A GEORGE III MAHOGANY HARLEQUIN PEMBROKE TABLE
LATE 18TH CENTURY
After a design by Thomas Sheraton, the rectangular crossbanded and chevron bordered top and flaps with mechanized section rising to reveal a floral inlaid fall-front with fitted interior, each side with a drawer and false drawers, on square tapering legs and block feet on casters, casters stamped B S P PEYTON with crown - 29½in. (75cm.) high, 46in. (117cm.) wide extended, 36in. (92cm.) deep

Both the design and the mechanism of this table are very closely based on plate 56 of Thomas Sheraton, The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Drawing Book,1793. Another example was offered at Christie's London, 1 December 1977, lot 42; and another was offered at Sotheby's New York, 12 December 1987, lot 175.
