A SOUTHERN FIVE-PIECE TEA-SERVICE, Augusta, Georgia, circa 1830, maker's mark of Clark & Co., comprising tea-kettle on chained stand (burner lacking), teapot, two-handled covered sugar-bowl, cream-jug and waste-bowl, each inverted pear-shaped, on openwork tapering scroll rocaille feet, with floral apron between, the lower part of the body chased with scrolls on a punched ground, above chased with alternate broad panels of foliate scrolls, and punched ground encased scroll cartouche, the collar chased with flowerspray, with applied scalloped rims, elaborate grapevine and foliate double scroll handle, the pots with part flowerspray chased scroll spout, the hinged partly domed cover, engraved with sexfoil within oval, surmounted by cast strawberry finial; the tea-kettle with part engraved overhead swing handle, the sides to the circular stand with openwork interlocking scrolls and floral apron below, on four scroll and shell supports--each marked except for teapot and tea-kettle on stand--height of tea-kettle on stand over handle 15½in. (39.3cm.), gross weight 133oz.
