Lot Essay

The artist, born in Sweden, moved to New York in 1890; two years later to New Bedford, Massachusetts. In 1906, he and his family travelled to Italy and spent two years in and around Florence. This painting depicts the artist's two sons, Jan and Bjorn, at the villa they rented there.
