A LARGE EARTHENWARE VASE
EDO/MEIJI PERIOD, (EARLY 19TH CENTURY), SIGNED DAI NIHON BIJUTSU SATSUMA YAKI KANTOZAN SEI NANGAKU GA AND TWO SEALS

The large ovoid jar with short neck and rolled rim painted in gilt and enamels of blue, green and orange-red with stands of tree peonies growing above a fence, the sky dotted with gilt clouds, patterned above the foot with a band of lappets enclosing chrysanthemum scroll, the collar painted with larger lappets centered with dragon, shishi and ho-o medallions, the neck ringed by a band of key frets- 21 in. (53.3 cm.)
