FUCHS, LEONHARD. Läbliche abbildung und contrafaytung aller kreüter. Basel: Michael Isingrin, 1545. 8vo, 169 x 110mm, contemporary panelled pigskin tooled in blind with stamps and rolls, rubbed, stained, 2 brass fore-edge clasps, leaves dampstained with resultant weakening in first few leaves and tears touching some letters of title, first quire split at upper hinge, without final blank. Printer's device on title, 517 woodcut illustrations of plants. Nissen BBI 660.
FIRST EDITION. The work is identical to Fuchs's Primi de Stirpium Historia Commentariorum (see lot ???), including the same botatnical woodcuts made under the supervision of Fuchs, but it has a dedication to King Ferdinand and a letter to the reader, both in German.
Provenance: Hoffmayer, contemporary inscription on title -- MS verses at end dated 13 Aug. 1769 -- Kenneth K. Mackenzie; Horticultural Society of New York, bookplate and blindstamp.
