A GEORGE II SILVER KETTLE, LAMP AND STAND
LONDON, 1748, MAKER'S MARK WG IN SCRIPT, PROBABLY FOR WILLIAM GRUNDY
The inverted pear-shaped body with foliate scroll spout, the overhead foliate scroll swing handle partly covered with raffia, chased at the shoulder with foliage, scrolls and fishscale, the hinged cover with conforming decoration and bud finial, engraved with a crest, the Royal Arms of George II and presentation inscription, "At the Launching His Majesty's Ship Somerset 18 July 1748 Burthen 1, 435 Tons 70 Guns & 520 Men Built by Mr. John Ward Master Shipwright of His Majesty's Yard at Chatham;" the circular stand on three multi-scroll and foliate feet, the circular burner's removable cover engraved with two crests, marked on base and stand--13¾in. overall height (34.93cm.)
