Lot Essay

Dunbar Beck was a painter and muralist from Delaware, Ohio. During his career he taught at Yale, but by 1940, settled in Sacramento, California. He exhibited at the 1939 New York World's Fair and painted murals for Rockefeller Center and the East Room of the White House. This painting was made when the artist was travelling through Connecticut in 1936 and saw two workers eating lunch.
