Lot Essay

"Through Louis B. Mayer's leadership in the 1930s, M.G.M. became a Hollywood powerhouse, with Mayer the most powerful magnate. In the 1930s and 1940s he was considered the highest paid person in the United States, and indulged his two passions: association with political figures and horse racing."--W.M.
