This kagamibuta is a product of a metallist working in the style of Japanese art developed in the late 19th Century for export, exemplary of the foreign fondness for what was considered quaint and exotic in Japan. Many examples of this genre are in the collection of the Peabody Museum, Salem, Massachusetts.
