A RARE ACID ETCHED SILVER CIGAR AND CIGARETTE STAND ON SALVER MADE FOR THE WORLD'S COLUMBIAN EXPOSITION, maker's mark of Tiffany & Co., 1893, gilt lined, the exterior of the tub form cigar holder issuing four similar tubs on scroll foot, each acid etched and engraved with broad frieze of foliate sprigs and undulating foliate scrolls, the cigarette holders applied with similar decoration, with partly pierced shell and applied foliate scroll rim above applied beaded band--5¼in. (13.3cm.) high, the cigar holder--5½in. (13.9cm.) diam.; the center of the shaped quatrefoil stand acid etched with monogram, the corners with conforming decoration to the cigar holder, with applied foliate scroll border, four times applied with iron plaque, on four foliate scroll feet--diagonal length 11¼in. Lot Essay

This cigar stand appears as number 344 in the World's Columbian Expostion, Chicago, 1893, as " Cigar Stands. 344 SILVER STAND chased and etched". In the Tiffany pattern book, pattern no. 11198, is entered as " Segar & Cigarette Stand, Mkg, etching Roman Special see cost $205". $205, was the cost to Tiffany in order to produce this piece. The weight is listed as 59.8oz. As reproduction of this entry is availble to the purchaser from Tiffany & Co.
