THE GRILL FAMILY DRESSING MIRROR: A SWEDISH BAROQUE POLYCHROME-PAINTED DRESSING MIRROR
CIRCA 1685, ATTRIBUTED TO CHRISTIAN PRECHT

Made for the marriage of Claes and Anna Johanna Grill, with divided arched bevelled plate within a swivel frame carved with blossoming foliate and surmounted by central oval slip within strapped stiles, the base fitted with a hinged slant-front centrally painted with the Grill coat-of-arms and enclosing an interior fitted with three pigeon holes and five drawers above a scalloped drawer fitted with open compartments, decorated throughout with penwork, and arabesques against a parcel-gilt scarlet-painted ground - 30½in. (77.5cm.) high, 17¾in. (45cm.) wide, 11½in. (29cm.) deep
