Lot Essay

An important American impressionist photographer, who worked in Indianapolis (circa 1895-1910), Chislett contributed to the first American Salon (New York) of 1904. His influence is apparent in the work of George Seeley, a friend from the early days of the Pictorialist Movement, who also exhibited in the first American Salon at Chislett's behest. Chislett's original prints are extremely rare. According to the Index of American Photographic Collections, no prints belong to any institution.
