Feuchère exhibited the original plaster model of the Amazon group at the 1843 Salon. This vigorous statuette was greatly admired for its energetic interpretation of the Antique theme, and was consequently cast in bronze editions. The Amazon taming a wild horse is known both in a draped version, and nude as in the present bronze.
