Lot Essay

Van Wouw's servant, Korhann, modelled for both Bushman Hunting and Head of a Bushman. After the works were completed, he left the artist's service to work for a man who took him to the United States where he was exhibited as a curiousity. He worked for Barnum and Bailey in this capacity for more than 30 years.
