1954 JAGUAR XK 120 SPORTS ROADSTER
Chassis No. S674659
Red with tan interior
Engine: six cylinder in-line, 3,442cc, 160bhp at 5,200rpm; Gearbox: four speed manual; Suspension: front , independent with double wishbones, longitudinal torsion bars, rear, semi elliptic leaf springs; Brakes: four wheel hydraulic drum. Left hand drive.
When Jaguar Cars introduced their revolutionary new sports car at the London Motor Show in 1948, little did they realise the world success it was going to be. It was the start of an incredible line of Jaguar sports cars with a distinguished competition history of winning Le Mans 24-Hour race five times and many hundreds of other major events.
The two main features which made the XK120 so popular were the major styling advances and perhaps more importantly, the debut of the twin overhead camshaft which became the mainstay of Jaguar cars for over three decades.
The Jaguar on offer here in one of the Special Equipment models available after 1951. The car has undergone a complete frame off restoration conducted by a respected Jaguar specialist. The work undertaken included the engine being updated as per service bulletin No. 95A so that it now has 15/8 " diameter exhaust valves and enlarged valve throats. In addition, stelite seats were insalled to upgrade the engine to run on un-leaded fuel. The car has alloy rimmed wire wheels, an alloy fly wheel and H8 sand cast 2" carbs. As a matter of interest, the brake wheel cylinders and gas tank are new and not rebuilt during restoration.
This beutifully presented car was placed first in the Chicago Historic Concours in 1996 and is complete in both the street trim and racing trim. It is pictured above in the racing trim, but also has a full windshield, convertible top and side curtains. It also has a metal racing tonneau cover for the seats which was copied from pictures for the Jabbeke race car prepared by Jaguar. The attention to detail applied during and since the restoration of this superb Jaguar makes it truly eye-catching.
