OKUMURA MASANOBU: hosoban (32.7 x 15.9 cm.); an urushi-e of Ichikawa Danjuro II holding a large radish (daikon) above his head, from the play Ozakura Ikioi Soga, performed at the Nakamura-za in 1726, signed Nihon Gako Ukiyo-e Ichiryu Kongen Okumura Shimmyo rui nashi Masanobu shohitsu tori shio-cho ezoshi toiya akaki hyotan shirushi Okumuraya "from the genuine brush of Masanobu, the unequaled Okumura Shimmyo, Japanese artist and founder of the school of Ukiyo-e, the illustrated book wholesaler Okumuraya at the sign of the red gourd in tori Shio-cho", gourd seal- very good impression, slightly faded, worming, edges soiled and slightly stained
