The view of the whirlpools over the the Naruto strait is one of a set of three triptychs along with Kisoji no yamakawa "Mountains and rivers on the Kiso Road", a snow scene, and Buyo Kanazawa hassho yakei "Evening view of the eight views of Kanazawa in Musashi Province", a moonlit landscape. Together they form a 'snow, moon and flowers' set, the Naruto whirlpool triptych alluding to flowers to which they often are compared in Japanese poetry
