A LOUIS XV KINGWOOD,AMARANTH AND PARQUETRY TRAVELLING TABLE À ÉCRIRE
CIRCA 1740
With rounded rectangular crossbanded hinged top inlaid with trellis parquetry opening to an open compartment and hinged leather-lined panel controlled by a steel looking mechanism above a plain frieze, on cabriole legs headed by scrolling foliate chutes ending in cloven sabots (lacking some interior fittings)--29½in. (75cm.) high, 36½in. (93cm.) wide, 22in. (56cm.) deep
The legs on this lot appear to have been removeable but have been glued. That combined with the unusual engraved steel locking mechanism would seem to indicated that it is a tabel de voyage. A very similar tabel stamped by Roussel is illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Français du XVIIIe Siècle, 1989, p. 739.
