A GERMAN NEO-CLASSIC ORMOLU-MOUNTED MAHOGANY LADIES WORK TABLE

With square moulded ormolu top centered by a circular padded olive silk covered cushion above a rectangular cupboard door centered by an oval gouache of armorini in a landscape in the manner of Angelica Kaufman swiveling to reverse to an olive silk panel, the door enclosing three amaranth drawers, the upper enclosing a rectangular green leather-lined writing slide centered by the embossed monogram 'SD', the central panelled as two sham drawers enclosing four lidded compartments above two concealed compartments centering a further compartment fitted for sewing utensils (lacking), the lower panelled as two sham drawers and enclosing a well for threads, the panelled sides mounted with rosette angles and floral-cast loop handles, on inscrolled supports and fluted adjustable column with laurel leaf-cast base and moulded sabre legs headed by foliate rosettes, on short square feet ending in casters, the top signed Cabinett Schreiner Müller à Stuttgardt, d. 18 Dec. 1796, and with a paper inventory label from Gatchina Palace - 36in. (90cm.) high
