A VICTORIAN SILVER CLARET JUG, London, 1859, maker's mark of E. & J. Barnard, lobed long necked pear shaped, on scalloped circular foot, the body chased with floral or fruit clusters on matted ground enclosed by partly matted foliate scrolls, one oval engraved with crest, one with presentation inscription dated 1862, headed by double foliate scrolls, with entwined rusticated grapevine handle, the join continuing onto spout rim, chased with diaperwork, rocaille and scroll enclosed panel underneath the short spout, the hinged broadly fluted part domed cover covering spout and topped by beaded bud finial--14¼in. (36.1cm.) high, 41.5oz.
