With a serpentine rectangular three quarter pierced galleried top above a hinged bombe slant front enclosing, fitted interior within a shaped case inlaid with panels depicting exotic birds and flowering vines in stained and engraved woods on cabriole legs with foliate scrolling sabots applied at the knees with female masks, on the lockplate inscribed DIEHL, 14 Rue Michel le Comte Paris

Lot Essay

Charles-Guillaume iehl (1811-1885) is recorded as having worked in Paris at Rue Michel Le-Comte frome 1853 through 1885. Diehl specialized in reproducing a range of furniture in the rococo and neoclassical styles using ormolu and porcelain mounts and hardstone panels on precious woods. (See D.
