A SET OF TWO LACQUER CUPS (SAKAZUKI)
edo period (19th century), signed yoyusai [hara yoyusai (1772-1845)], and inscribed hoitsu kishin saku (sakai hoitsu)
Each footed, circular cup of red lacquer decorated in gold hiramaki-e, the larger illustrated after a design by the Rimpa school painter Sakai Hoitsu (1761-1828) with a branch of flowering plum, inscribed Hoitsu kishin hitsu near the design, the base inscribed Yoyusai Kozan and with kakihan, the smaller illustrated with a pine trunk and branches, inscribed Keii hitsu [Itaya Hironaga (1760-1814)]
