Contemporary manuscript copy (in Cumpsten's hand?) of Lee's General Order no.9, Appomattox, Va., l0 April l865, one page, folio, written in an ornate hand on a page torn from an army ledger or similar record, light wear, headed "Genl. R.E.Lee's Farewell Address"; 2)
"Paroled Prisoner's Pass" issued to Cumpsten by his commanding officer, G. Waggaman, Appomattox Court House, l0 April l865, one page, an oblong, light wear, stating that "The bearer, Corp. J.J. Cumpsten of Co. G Seventh Regt. of Louisiana Volunteers a Paroled Prisoner of the Army of Northern Virginia has permission to go to his home and there remain undisturbed....," verso with record of Cumpsten's reporting to the Provost Marshall at New Orleans on 2 May l865; 3) State of Louisiana printed militia discharge papers for Cumpsten, New Orleans, 29 Sept. l884, one page, 4to, with large state emblem at top, accomplished in manuscript; 4) Printed "Soldier's Application for Pension," New Orleans, l899, 4 pages, large folio, separated at folds, browned, accomplished in manuscript, detailing Cumpsten's service (in the American Rifles, wounded at Port Republic and in lst day's battle at Gettysburg).
