An old label on the stretcher of the painting reads as follows:
"In the Year 1812-News of the Declaration of War with Great Britain". Scene taken in Orange Co. N. Y., one of the old Dutch Houses of early 18th Century type. In the Distance the Shawangunk Mtns.-- old-style of Runabout used at that time. Costumes and uniforms of the period.
