Lot Essay

Compare the square stool with leg-encircling stretchers and decorative oval struts illustrated by Wang Shixiang, Connoisseurship of Chinese Furniture, vol. II, p. 21, no. A11

For a discussion of bamboo furniture in hardwood forms see Ronald Longsdorf, "Chinese Bamboo Furniture, Its History and Influence on Hardwood Furniture Design", Orientations, January 1994, pp. 76-83
