A BAMBOO CARVING OF THE LUOHAN BANTUOJIA QUELLING A DRAGON
18th Century
Carved from a single piece of bamboo, the crouching figure with one knee raised, one hand resting on the knee holding the celestial pearl, the other placed on the scaly four-clawed dragon coiled around his waist, dressed in loose robes knotted at mid-chest, and high boots, the face with bulging eyes, and pronounced nose and mouth open in a grimace, below furrowed brow and bald head
