A PAIR OF LEATHER-STRAPPED BAMBOO ARMCHAIRS, MEIGUIYI
18th/19th Century
Each with a crestrail bent continuously to form the rear posts and legs, with a lacquered softwood seat supported on a frame of three bamboo leg-encircling stretchers, the arms bent continuously to form the front posts and legs, supported by four bamboo sideposts, the backsplat formed of an openwork lattice with a central diagonal-patterned octagonal medallion, the legs joined at the base by two leg-encircling stretchers below three softwood stretchers, all major joints reinforced with lacquered leather straps, the bamboo of a characteristic mottled pattern
