A CHINESE EXPORT AND PORTUGUESE MATCHING SIX PIECE SILVER TEA AND COFFEE SERVICE, mid 19th Century, the Chinese tea urn and sugar bowl maker's mark probably that of Houchong or Houcheong, the Portuguese pieces marked IX S & V, comprising tea urn, teapot, coffee pot, two handled covered sugar bowl, covered milk jug and waste bowl, each engraved with small monogram to the upper body and cover, lobed pear shaped on circular foot raised on four tapering foliate scroll feet, the lobes chased and engraved with alternating panels of plumeting stylized matted bird intersecting C scroll enclosed vacant oval cartouche, and vertical partly matted flowering plant, part foliate scroll spout, with scalloped rim, the pots with part conformingly decorated spout, with scalloped shoulder, the hinged low domed cover with chased and engraved foliate calyx topped by cast double flowerhead finial, the tea urn on screw in lobed circular base flat chased with panels of foliate, on similar feet, with reeded dragon's head spout and stained green ivory handle, with reeded foliate handles and detachable cover--the tegeurn 16¼in.
