One a portable casket of rectangular form, the fall front decorated with a scene of immortals in a setting of pavilions, trees and mountains, the sides and top decorated with panels of formally arranged foliate scroll, all within key-pattern borders and reserved on a diaper ground, the interior with a central open compartment flanked by two compartments with doors set between two drawers above and a single drawer below, the top fitted with gilt-bronze carrying handles with ruyi-head terminals; the other of almost square form, the hinged top opening to a large compartment and the sides carved with pairs of dragons and phoenix amidst foliate scroll, fitted with a series of drawers decorated with chrysanthemum sprays and scrolling foliage, all reserved on a diaper ground

A similarly constructed portable carved red lacquer chest with the same arrangement of the interior as that of the first chest, but with dragon decoration, is illustrated in Masterpieces of Chinese Carved Lacquer Ware in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, 1971, no. 35. The proportions are also almost identical
