A GREEN AND PALE GRAYISH-LAVENDER JADEITE VASE AND COVER
The pear-shaped vase of oval section with angled shoulder below a pair of elephant-head handles suspending loose rings, carved in high relief on one side with a large leafy, flowering vine appearing to grow from a bench on which one of two boys sits, the other boy seated on a low outcropping of rock rising from the openwork, rocky base, while two goats stand on a taller, pierced outcropping to the other side, each boy holding a staff as if supporting the vine, the reverse plain, the domed cover carved with a rounded knop surrounded by two smaller vines, one bearing an eggplant on which is seated a praying mantis, the other bearing two globular fruit, the stone of even pale lavender-gray tone with areas of emerald-green coloring used as highlights
