A MEISSEN ARMORIAL DISH FROM THE SWAN SERVICE
CIRCA 1738, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARK, DREHER'S MARK OF A QUARTERED CIRCLE

After a model by J.J. Kändler and J.F. Eberlain for Count Brühl, the shell-patterned surface moulded with swans among bulrushes, herons, fish and shells, the border painted with indianische Blumen flanking the Arms and the shaped rim enriched with gilding (crack, slight surface wear)--13 3/8in. (34cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

The Arms are those of Heinrich, Count von Brühl (1700-1763), Director of the Meissen factory from 1733-63, and his wife Francisca Kollowrat-Krakowska whom he married in 1737
