EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1750), SIGNED TOSA KUNI MUNETOSHI

The round iron plate is pierced with a design of a temple gate and pine trees. There is some surface line carving within the trees and the rim is rounded--height 7.9cm., width 7.6cm., thickness 5mm.

Lot Essay

Myochin Ki Munetoshi was a student of Akasaka Tadatoki V in Edo. He was sent to Tosa at the request of the Yamanouchi daimyo who resided there. He worked almost exclusively in the Akasaka school style favored by the Yamanouchi daimyo.
