EDO PERIOD, DATED 1864, SIGNED NANIWA [NO] JU GASSAN UNRYUSHI SADAKAZU TSUKURU

Configuration (sugata): with longitudinal ridge line (shinogi-zukuri), shallow peaked back (iori-mune) and large point (o-kissaki); length (nagasa): 2 shaku, 3 sun, 8 bu (72.3cm.); increase in width of blade (fumbari): 1.0cm.
Forging pattern (jihada): fine, dense 'pear-skin' (nashiji) and ji-nie becoming more blatant and profuse near the monouchi. Tempering pattern (hamon): wide suguba in ko-nie with extremely subtle insinuations of 'swept sands' (sunagashi).
Point (boshi): flame-brushed tip (hakikake).
Tang (nakago). Shape (keitai): regular and unshortened (ubu); file marks (yasurime): kesho-yasuri sujikai; end (nakagojiri): rounded (kurijiri); holes (mekugi-ana): two; signature (katanamei): Naniwa [no] ju Gassan Unryushi Sadakazu tsukuru, dated Genji 1 (1864), 3rd month.
