The cylindrical .62 bore cylindrical barrel with flattened top peep line fitted with two blocked non-adjusting peep V-sights fore and aft barrel behind a flared octagonal muzzle applied with silver nunome decoration; the exposed portion of the barrel decorated in silver and gold nunome with a celestial dragon amidst clouds above a panel of silver nunome scrollwork centered by a Matsudaira mon and signed Echizen [no] Kami shoku shi (Lord of Echizen decorated this); the barrel signed on the underside, Kitai maki bari [wrapped] Shimatani Ki Hachiro Shigesuke saku; the one-piece wood stock set with plain brass furniture and with silver foliage on the side of the frizzen; the peg holes strengthened by brass sakura--overall length 42½in. (107.9cm.).

The term 'wrapped' applies to the use of pre-stressed low-carbon alpha iron steel literally wrapped over the inner bored core in a cross direction as a means of strengthening the entire barrel.
