The importance of this paitning lies in its placement between the Figurative and the Abstract period of the artist's work. Carreño called this period Action Painting. The work was executed upon his return to Cuba from New York. The artist incorporates elements from the big city, but at the same time colors and forms, and caribbean elements of his native Cuba.
