Lot Essay

Philip Little made several paintings of the Washington Market such as this one from the window of the Curator's office at the National Gallery of Art. Copies of letters dated Dec. 2 and 6, 1910, between the curator W. H. Holmes and an interested Boston patron LeRoy Melville Tufts, discussing the artist and his Washington subjects accompany the lot.
