Lot Essay

This impressive copy was probably executed circa 1900 at the Tate Gallery, which acquired the original 1881 work by Albert Moore in 1894. A study for the Tate painting is in the Fogg Art Museum, Cambridge.

We are grateful to Richard Green, Curator, York City Art Gallery for his assistance in cataloguing this lot.
