The curved and faceted shaft inlaid on top with four whitish jade plaques alternating with similarly shaped panels divided into opposing triangles in silver and gold enclosing scroll motifs, the narrow side facets decorated with alternating strips of gold and silver above further scrolls and geometric patterns which terminate below the small animal-head hook, a circular button on the underside, some blue-green encrustation--7 1/2 in. (19cm.) long

Garment hooks of similar type have been found in Chu tombs in the area of Xinyang, Henan Province, as illustrated in Xinyang Chu mu, Beijing, 1986, pls. LXIV and LXV. Others were included in the exhibition, Ancient Chinese Ritual Bronzes, Detroit Institute of Arts, 1940, Catalogue, pl. XXXV, nos. 54, 70 and 66
