A SANCAI-GLAZED POTTERY FIGURE OF AN EQUESTRIAN DRUMMER
TANG DYNASTY

The rider wearing a straw-glazed robe and unglazed hood shown with body turned to the left and hands raised as if to beat the small drum hung from the saddle, seated astride an ochre-glazed horse with darker toned muzzle, the pale green glaze used to highlight the forelock, cropped mane and hogged tail combined with dark ochre and straw glazes to create a mottled effect on the saddle cloth, some restoration--14 1/4 in. (36.2cm.) high

The result of Oxford thermoluminescence test no. 566z79 is consistent with the dating of this lot
