AN INLAID GOLD LACQUER VASE
MEIJI PERIOD (LATE 19TH CENTURY)

Of compressed, lobed form set on a flared, footed base with cylindrical neck flaring to a petal rim, decorated on the body with six shaped panels bordered in silver which are inlaid with birds and flowers in mother-of-pearl and colored ivory, the panels reserved on an okibirame and nashiji ground, the underside of the lobed body decorated with waves on a brownish-gold ground, the neck embellished with two-color gold clouds centering a wide silver band cast with clouds, the foot and rim silver-mounted, interior and underside nashiji- 7 1/2 in. (19.4 cm.) high
